Acupuncture Orlando  - 10 myths about acupuncture finally debunked.

Today we continue clarifying myths and misconceptions about acupuncture to allow our Patients to see acupuncture therapy for what it really is - an effective and safe way of treating many diseases in a bio-friendly and cost-effective way. Below you will find the next 5 myths about acupuncture. If you missed the first part of this article click here or visit us on www.medicavitacenter.com

Myth 5: A typical acupuncture session in Orlando involves using between a dozen to a few dozen needles at once.

The Truth:

If the diagnosis is made correctly, only as few as 4-6 needles may be necessary to receive a therapeutic effect from your acupuncture session. It is said that the real acupuncture masters can achieve the best results using only one needle inserted precisely in the correct acupoint.

Myth 6: Acupuncture treatment is very painful.

The Truth:

Acupuncture treatment, if performed by an experienced acupuncturist - such as Dr. Chetin - a qualified provider of acupuncture in Orlando - should not be painful nor should it cause discomfort. The treatment brings best results when the patient is relaxed. However, every single patient displays different sensitivity to the treatment. Individual reactions and sensations during the session depend on the patient’s pain threshold as well as on the location of the acupoints. It is advised that patients don’t move the limbs or the parts of the body where the needles remain inserted to ensure the intended acupoint stimulation.

Myth 7: In order to cure a particular condition only strictly specified acupoints can be punctured.

The Truth:

As a matter of fact, before every single acupuncture session (even in regard to the same patient), the acupuncturist must make a diagnosis.  Apart from the interview and a regular check-up results it may also include checking the pulse and inspecting of the patient’s tongue. Checking the pulse may be conducted before and after every acupuncture session. This way the acupuncturist - including our Orlando acupuncture practitioner, Dr. Chetin, - can decide on possible alterations of the acupoints and assess the immediate body reactions to treatment. It is worth noting that conditions such as asthma, constipation, or chronic headache, just to name a few, may have different causes according to the Western and to the Chinese medicine. The disparity in findings on the causes are a result of different medical approaches to the subject which is the human body and the human health. Western medicine does not focus on prevention and is highly reactive, aiming at fighting the symptoms. Chinese medicine, on the other hand, searches for the causes of the disease and aims at reaching to the root of the problem, and removing the problem, not only the symptoms.

Mit 8: Acupuncture in Orlando sessions are sufficient to overcome a disease and one does not have to change their diet or lifestyle along with the treatment.

The Truth:

Acupuncture (including acupuncture in Orlando practiced at Medica Vita Center), is a natural medicine modality which exercises a holistic yet individual approach to the human health. According to the Traditional Chinese Medicine teachings, a therapy can only be effective if a thorough examination of the patient's condition is based on the understanding, that the human body is a complex unity and no two identical body systems exist. Your Acupuncturist is very likely to suggest you to change your diet or alter your lifestyle (by avoiding or eradicating harmful substances from your diet or abstaining from unhealthy activities activities). Lack of your consent or cooperation to implement such changes may result in discontinuation of the treatment process. If you refuse to change your obviously harmful eating habits (and they contribute to your health problems) your therapist may choose to refuse treating you.

Myth 9: Acupuncture treatment is only effective for pain management.

The Truth:

According to the Traditional Chinese Medicine, acupuncture is a highly powerful remedy - and not not just for acute or chronic pain management. It has been successfully used for the upper respiratory tract conditions, gynaecological, urological, neurological, cardiological and dermatological conditions, amongst others. Recently, acupuncture - including acupuncture in Orlando - has become popular amongst professional and amateur sportspersons for its potent performance - enhancement properties, effective injury prevention, and post-injury treatment results.

Mit 10: Patients can expect immediate results after just one successful acupuncture session.

The Truth:

It is possible, however, in most cases, even though a single acupuncture session does trigger bodily reactions, it may not be sufficient to see permanent improvements. Patients’ individual immediate reactions vary and may resemble e.g. an infection, energy boost or energy loss. Such symptoms are temporary and prove that acupuncture in Orlando treatments restore the energetical balance within the body, and is not indifferent, but in fact, can be a forceful healing power.
